#7 Pest: Fair Weather & The Flu

Image
The last 3 days have been amazing! It's even been a little chilly. On Friday we went streeting at noon and we were wearing sweaters. It feels like April again, but I'm sure the heat will return. On P-day we went to Gellérts Hegy. (Gellért Hill is a 235 m high hill overlooking the Danube in Budapest, Hungary.) There is a great view of the city from the hill. We went to the mission home and picked up a box of Book of Mormons... and surprise, there was a package for me! It had macaroni and cheese in it, which I ate that night – It had SPAM and peanut butter and lots of other yummy food from home! Thanks Mom! This is also the last week with President Szabadkai, on Friday, the new president starts. Our mission is changing and it feels like everything is going to be different. I don't know if I'm ready for it, I'm really going to miss the Szabadkais!! This week has been interesting. I had a pretty intense 48 hour flu this week, and I felt like was dying on Wednesd

#6 Pest: Breathtaking Views from Esztergom

Heysztok! This week was alright, we had a lot of people cancel on us again, but you can't let that get you down, summer break for people here just started so lots of ward members and investigators are going on vacation. I did the coolest thing I’ve ever done for a P-day activity. We got permission from our mission president to travel outside our boundaries. We took an hour train ride northwest to a little town called Esztergom on the Danube. The train ride from Budapest to Esztergom was super pretty, you go through country side and little towns, and it’s on the Buda side so it’s really hilly. There’s hills all around with the river going through and it’s super cool. On the other side of the river is Slovakia, so I’ve seen Slovakia. Esztergom the seat of the Holy Roman Catholic Church in Hungary. They have a cathedral there that is the tallest building in Hungary. Hungary doesn’t have sky scrapers, but even so, this cathedral is impressive… it’s gargantuan inside. There has been a c

This week just blew by! In the field: The front end of this week had an appointment with an older woman we had a lesson with three weeks ago, our first lesson was when she let us in when we were tracking. At the time she told us to come back in three weeks, so we went back, and we had a second lesson. We had a good lesson and Elder Fales taught her about baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Elder Fales invited her to set a baptism date and she said yes. We have a lot to teach her still, but we hope it will lead to her baptism. We had another really cool let-in while we were tracting this week. I didn’t have my papers on me which is risky because if someone calls the police on you and you don’t have your papers it could be a problem. We were yelled at two building managers as we were tracting, and this made me really nervous, but we tried to avoid them. During one of these episodes, and while the building manager was yelling at us, we knocked on a door and a 4-year-old boy

We went to the city park and heroes square with the sister missionaries on Memorial Day, it was also elder Fales birthday It was a slow week for missionary work. We had quite a few people drop their lessons with us, but that happens in missionary work. Our Indian man we were teaching didn’t show, which is a bummer because we had a Hindi Book of Mormon for him. Elder Fales and I made the best of it and streeted. We came up with some creative approaches and were able to get 8 phone numbers. We went to teach our investigator from Mexico this week and we were super excited because we got a member to go with us who is from Spain, we thought it was going to be great, and then she wasn’t there which was really sad, but we didn’t let ourselves get down. We did a lot of finding, talked to a lot of people on the street and knocked on a lot of doors. We talked to a woman through her door who told us a really sad story about how her mother and father died within six days of each other. We
