#2 Buda: Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
The year closes today, and I've been thinking a lot about 2018, what was good what was bad. This year was special because it is the only one of my life where I was a missionary 100% of the time. It was pretty special. While I can't say I was perfect this year, I am happy to say that I feel satisfied with what I have accomplished and the progress I have seen in myself. I can't ask more than that!!
Elder Udy and I did some Christmas Eve tracting last week and we said that is was kind of like when Joseph and Mary wondered around a city on Christmas Eve knocking on doors and no one let them in. Our Christmas day started at the Hinckley's apartment with President and Sister Hettinger and some of their adult children. We had steak, bacon and eggs with cinnamon rolls. It was the best breakfast of my whole mission. It was cool to just hang out with the Hettinger's and the Hinckley's. We drove out to the Klingers's, he's the first counselor in the mission presidency, and had Christmas lunch at their house and they have kids our age at BYU and their son was home for Christmas so we hung out and talked to him for awhile. After that we went to the Starostas house, another family from the Buda ward, and had another dinner. We video chatted with our families from their house. It was a good talk. I like it, but it's also kind of hard because it's the only time when I feel REALLY homesick.
We spend Christmas this year with the Hinckleys, Klingers, and the Starostas. It was fun to have more traditional Hungarian Christmas food, It was quite present. The rest of the week, we spent our time doing our office work, and finding when we got done. We found some new people, and we hope that next week after the holidays that we can meet with them after the holidays.
This week I read about the Anti-Nephi-Lehis, and I thought about how what they did reflected their conversion, I don't know if I would have been converted enough to let myself and my family be slaughtered and not fight back. Its pretty amazing, but it also sets a standard, we should be as committed to our covenants as they were to theirs, the real question, what is the equivalent of their sacrifice in my life.

After Christmas we went back to work in the office, but we did get to do missionary work in the afternoons. The highlights for the rest of the week were: getting to see the Oakey's when they came into the office for interviews. I had missed them so it was great to see them. I've been getting more responsibilities in the office and so I've been watching a bunch of training videos. We had to run some errands around town in order to make sure that rental agreements were taken care of. We stopped in the Christmas market so I could buy a leather bag I saw there last week and really liked. So, I bought my Christmas present.
It's been a good week.
