#9 Debrecen: A Special Thanksgiving

Image
Another week flies by! I feel like all of my letters start that way. This week we had an exchange with the Eger elders. I worked with Elder Hess. We worked on giving personal commitments while finding and talking with every one. It was wonderful. That night I made a big pot of Dad's goulash, but with pork and not beef. It was good. I also went on an exchange with my district leader Elder Hudson in Nyíregyháza, we worked on promising blessings and bearing testimony while giving commitments. We had two lessons and we had a lot of fun. This week we we found 3 new people to teach, and we look forward to meeting with them again this next week. We had a really good lesson with our investigator Andi. We shared with her the blessings that come from the Gift of the Holy Ghost. We tied that into baptism and asked her to to pray to know when she needs to be baptized. We will be following up with her this week. It was difficult to meet with the other people we are teaching, including th

Well, the first week of the new transfer was great! It was sad to see Elder Surdu go back to Canada, but it will be good for him to be home. My new companion Elder Seeley is awesome, it's going to be a great transfer. This weeks MLC (Mission Leadership Meeting) was great. We have a lot of work to do and a lot of plans and ideas to implement. This week Elder Surdu and I met with Andi. We talked about the part of King Benjamin's address to his people when he says "If you believe all these things see that ye do them." ( Mosiah 4:10 ) We invited her to pray and ponder this week about what is the next step for her, in her faith experiment, and what Heavenly Father wants her to do next. It was really good. This week we found 3 new people to teach. I look forward to meeting with them this coming week. One of them just walked into the church building yesterday after church and asked about what our church was like and how we pray and stuff like that. She is from the Middle Eas

I am looking forward to staying in Debrecen, it will be nice to stay somewhere and just get to work. I'll be getting Elder Seeley, he is also in the same group as Elders Fales and Gilson, on transfer ahead of me, which means he's been in Hungary 9 weeks longer than me. This week for us and the for the Zone was a more difficult one. I hope that this new transfer and some of the new companionships will be able to lengthen their strides and we can move the work along. We started the week with P-day and an exchange with Elder Gilson and Elder Wrathall. We went to Hortobagy and Elder Gilson bought a whip from the whip master while we were there. Because we had to wait on the trains work out of Hortobagy we went to a little shop and got  palacsinta , which are like crapes but they are filled with meat and served with cream sauce, they are one of my favorite things. After we got back to Debrecen with Edler Gilson and Wrathall, we finished up our p-day cleaning our apartment beca

#6 Debrecen: All Saints Day in Hungary

This week was a busy one but also a good one. Monday we went on a surprise adventure to Szeged for a baptismal interview. It went well and it was good to see how the elders in Szeged are doing. Tuesday and Wednesday we had exchanges with the elders from Miskolc. It was really good, Elder VanDuyse and I worked on using the Book of Mormon in finding and teaching and how to make language study more meaningful. We had a lesson with an new investigator named Jusztin, He said he wasn't very interested in faith or religion but he had a lot of really good questions about the plan of salvation and we had a good discussion with him about the purpose of life. It was a really good meeting. Wednesday was All Saints Day (Halloween), which is a day that they remember their ancestor and go to the cemetery and place candles and flowers, which is really cool. We spent the day traveling to Budapest for a doctors appointment. We went to lunch and then had two hours to burn before the appointment an
